🎉 Fun Friday - The FUTURE of TV!
If you think today's TVs are impressive, just wait! Technology is moving at an incredible pace, and I believe we're only beginning to see what's possible. From rollable and transparent displays to screens that could someday blend seamlessly into our cabinetry and walls, the future is all about making technology less noticeable and more integrated into our homes. Here are a few innovations that have my designer brain dreaming about what's next...
1. The Future? LG's Rollable TV Now we're getting into the really fun stuff! LG has introduced a rollable OLED TV (back in 2019!) that disappears into its base when you're not using it. It's still in its infancy (and definitely not inexpensive), but it got my designer brain spinning.
What I'd love to see is this technology miniaturized. Imagine a sleek speaker-sized box sitting on your kitchen island—or tucked away in a charging drawer. When you want to catch the news, follow a recipe, or watch the game, you simply pull it out, press a button, and a 24-inch (or smaller) screen rolls up. When you're finished, it rolls back down and disappears. To me, that's where kitchen technology is headed. Learn more about LG's concept here: LG Rollable OLED TV.

3. My "Someday" Wish – Built-In Wall Screens (after Now let me dream a little...
We've all seen those enormous LED wall displays at concerts, conventions, and trade shows. But what happens when that technology becomes smaller, thinner, and affordable enough for our homes?
Imagine a section of your backsplash becoming a screen when you need it. Or a pantry pull-out that doubles as a display. Maybe the inside of a cabinet door becomes your recipe screen, TV, or Zoom monitor. Today's technology isn't quite there yet, but I don't think we're all that far away.
As designers, we're always trying to make technology blend into the home instead of becoming the focal point. The less we have to look at big black screens, the happier I am! Until then... Samsung's Frame TV is still my favorite solution. But I can't wait to see what comes next.
Hopefully, in my lifetime, those top two LG innovations trickle down to us regular folks! Technology has a funny way of doing that—what seems impossible today often becomes commonplace tomorrow.
But truthfully... I'm still holding out for a holographic screen! No TV to mount, no cabinet to hide it in, no artwork to disguise it—just tap a button and poof... your favorite show appears in midair. A kitchen designer can dream, can't she? 😊
